Kindergarten

Discovery Woods offers beautiful and rich learning environments filled with specialized learning materials designed to inspire the elementary student to explore and discover. Teachers hold Minnesota teaching licenses and are highly trained in Montessori methods. Discovery Woods strives to encourage students toward self-directed learning while encompassing state standard curriculum. Montessori materials are used in the elementary classrooms to introduce concepts and allow the students to practice with hands-on manipulatives. This way children gain a deeper understanding of new things than they would if they were given a workbook or blackboard lesson. Textbooks and worksheets are rarely used

1st-2nd Grade (Lower Elementary)

Discovery Woods configures its classrooms in the multi-year age groupings typical of Montessori schools. Mixed age groups offer the children a variety of peers at their own social, emotional and academic level.
Discovery Woods offers beautiful and rich learning environments with educational materials designed to inspire the elementary student to guide their own learning through personal interests and social relationships. Textbooks and worksheets are not often used; instead, students use journals, graphic organizers, and white boards during learning activities.  Environmental education is a cornerstone of student learning.  With environmentally-based themes to guide science, social studies, and English language arts, a cross-curricular approach fosters a more authentic approach to learning.  Teachers hold Minnesota teaching licenses and pursue training opportunities to enhance and implement Montessori methods, as well as environmental education. Discovery Woods strives to encourage students toward self-directed learning while encompassing state standard curriculum.
